NEWSLETTER – APRIL-JUNE 2017

Dear Member

Welcome to our spring newsletter, I hope you are all managing to get into your gardens. The plants are all suddenly growing very quickly though the slugs have started eating ours already!!!I hope you have a good Spring and make time to enjoy your garden as well as working hard.

New Website

We have a new website!! Nicki, one of our Committee members has started up a new website for us.   www.uptonhorticulturalsociety.co.uk.

Take a look at it – it is work in progress but is looking really good. It will be kept up to date with the latest happenings and has got meeting information, Show details as well as photos, news etc. etc. If there is anything in particular that is connected with the Society that you would like to put on the website please let Nicki or I know.

Spring Show

Another fabulous Show – thank you to everyone who entered. The benches were yet again full of lovely exhibits. Congratulations to our winners and well done to everyone who entered. Thank you very much.

Don't forget the other two shows this year, the Summer Show is on the 19th August and the Autumn Show is on the 14th October. The entry forms are in the middle of the schedule or they are on our website to print off. Please do have a go at entering; members of the committee are always there to help. We love to get some new winners at the Shows. So start planning your winning entries! Good luck.

Programme

We have no idea how this has happened but a few of the Programmes have the wrong date for the Summer meeting on them. The meeting is on the 7th June!

Membership

Don't forget our membership year has begun so if you haven't already paid please see Janet at one of our meetings and she will renew your membership for you.

Committee

We are looking for new committee members to join our committee. Without new helpers, we will not be able to do all the things that we do in the Society. We work hard but we do have a good time. It is enjoyable work and hopefully you all enjoy the things we do but as I say without new helpers we won’t be able to do everything we do for the Society. Please think hard about it and let me know if you are interested. Thank you.

Trips

Chatsworth

We have been let down by the RHS! Rita rang in November to buy the tickets to go to Chatsworth and was told she had to ring back in March as group tickets were not available until then. Rita rang back in March to be told there were no group tickets left!! Since then Rita has been trying every which way to get tickets but to no avail. So, we are going to have change our trip – we are proposing to go to Tatton Park Show on 22nd July instead. If everyone who has bought tickets for Chatsworth could let us know if you would like to go to Tatton instead then we can get that booked. Please let me on 379976 or Rita know on 674578 or Helen on 373570 or ritacr@hotmail.co.uk . Or let us know at the May meeting on the 3rd May. You can still get individual tickets for Chatsworth if you ring up, though they are going very fast.

Ness Gardens

We are going to Ness Gardens on the evening of Wednesday July 5th. Andy Lambie, who you will all know from the talks he has given us, is going to give us a guided tour of Ness. We are meeting at Ness at 6.30pm ready to walk round. The cost is £8.50 with concessions for those over 65 and members. Should be an interesting evening. Rita is taking names at the next meeting.

June Meeting

The tickets are on sale for our June meeting which is a talk by Jan Jones, who is coming to talk to us about Eaton Hall. This will be followed by a Summer Supper. If you would like a ticket at £8.50 please let me know or buy one at the next meeting.  This is a member’s only event.

                                                May Meeting

Our May meeting is our annual Plant sale and is on the 3rd May. If you have any plants or seedlings you can donate please bring them along to the Hall about 6pm if possible so we have enough time to display them. We would be very grateful for your lovely plants. Please could you label them as well! Our talk is by Jacqueline Iddon who will be talking about ‘Fabulous foliage and fantastic flowers’ and the table top competition is a vase of flowers and foliage.

                                                And finally.

I hope this year is a good one weather wise and we can all get into our gardens more and enjoy them!

I've run out of room as usual so I'll let you get back to your gardens to carry on the good work.

Happy gardening
